Construction - pathway A

The owner-builder option.

Your build. Your trades. Your savings.

Most Storybook designs are built by their owners. You take legal responsibility for constructing your own home and coordinate the trades - with Storybook’s documentation, material kit and technical advice behind you.

Eyes open

What it actually involves

  1. i

    An owner-builder permit

Issued by your state authority - requirements vary by state, and your consultant will point you to the right one.

  2. ii

    Selecting and coordinating trades

The single most critical task. Most clients select the majority of their trades during the permit stage, before construction begins.

  3. iii

    Real time and organisation

Owner-building asks genuine commitment. Storybook will tell you plainly whether your project - and your calendar - suit it.

  4. iv

    Roughly 20%+ saved, tax-free

Self-managing removes the builder’s margin from the build cost. On a character home, that is a serious number.

Never alone on site

Storybook stays at your elbow

Plans and documentation are prepared with owner-builders in mind. The material kit arrives itemised for your design. And pre-construction technical advice is a phone call away whenever you need to check something.
